Local Charity Support

Geelong Street Rodders Donate to Local Charities again in 2014

The Geelong Street Rodders have long been associated with various local charities, having assisted in fundraising with numerous car shows & displays over the years, since the club’s formation in 1973.

Geelong Street Rodders have been hosting their annual event, Queenscliff Rod Run, since 1998 in the coastal town of Queenscliff & surrounds. Originally a bi-annual event known as “Surf-Out”, held firstly in Barwon Heads & then Ocean Grove, Queenscliff Rod Run has steadily grown into one of the premier events on the Victorian rodding calendar. The first weekend in February each year sees hundreds of hot rods & custom cars hitting the area for a weekend of family activities.

Over the last 10 years or so, the Queenscliff / Point Lonsdale Lions Club have been involved in the collection of gate takings from the Sunday Show ‘n’ Shine at the Queenscliff Rod Run. Each year sees thousands of spectators taking in the atmosphere of the day, with the Geelong Street Rodders handing the entire gate takings over to the Lions club. Tens of thousands of dollars have been raised & distributed to the Lions club’s many beneficiaries throughout the local community, thanks to the commitment & dedication from the members of Geelong Street Rodders who have ensured the ongoing success of the event.

In addition to the charities & community groups supported by the Lions Club, each year the members of Geelong Street Rodders select various local charities to support, with the allocation of funds to assist in their ongoing work. Among those to receive donations have been local support groups for Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease & Parkinson’s Disease. Other recipients over the years have included Cottage By The Sea, Geelong Hospital, Andrew Love Centre, Cancer Council Relay For Life, Wombat’s Wish & other charities associated with local kids, local rural Fire Brigades & many more.

This year the club’s members have chosen to support Barwon Valley School, Anam Cara House & Parkinson’s Support Group Geelong.

Geelong Street Rodders are proud to have been able to assist the aforementioned charities & community groups, & look forward to supporting them & many other worthy recipients in the future.
